Unit 6 Exercise & Assessment Process

Hello!
Earlier today I did the assessment process and I just finished the loving kindness exercise.
The assessment process got me to really look, in present time, what is going on with me.
In what areas do I need to focus in on to develop a clear and calm state?  This process
has you look at all major four areas in your personal life and see which one needs attention
or re-directing.  The loving kindness exercise involves taking 10 minutes to repeat the listed
phrases.   It's purpose is to rid the mind of negative thoughts and bring into a loving and
giving place.

My experience with this Unit 6 assignment was subtle and yet powerful.
I found the assessment made me "look" at myself and my personal world
I found that my life is out of balance.  I am having time issues which affect my
work, college and personal parts of my life.   I see that I need to address some
attention to some time scheduled slots for work and school and personal down
time.  I feel burned out and can barely keep going.   I also saw that I have been
ignoring my poor personal relationship and why am I not moving on?  My needs
are not getting met and I have just given up on it being fixable.  So, for me a lot
of heavy stuff came up.   I decided to give myself time to put attention on
taking better care of me.   After the loving kindness exercise, I did feel my energy
shift and I felt more open and loving to all.   I saw that I can do more to love and
help others.  I felt like a better human after these exercises.   I see value in doing
both of these.

  1. Hi Therese, I really enjoyed reading your blog. It helped me realize that I am not the only one that was dramatically affected my these exercises. I also learned that there are negative nonproductive qualities about myself that need major improvement.

It's not a good feeling to learn that we may subconsciously possess poor character traits but at the same time, it's awesome that they were pointed out before it's to late. With time and energy, we can acquire the positive traits which are needed to experience integral development and foster optimal wellness. Always have faith and I wish you great success on your path to self improvement.

  2. Therese, good to see you got your blog responses on the main page instead of your comment box. Sorry I didn't get back to you on how to do that, I've been really busy. In regard to the assessment, I found it to be very helpful as well. It really provides clarity on all the aspects in your life and what needs improving. I think the assessment is the easier part though. Taking the time and having the patience to look at how we can improve the finer details of each aspect of our life is important for us to succeed in what we want to accomplish. There are so many activities and practices out there that finding the right one for ourselves is importat as well.

  3. Therese,
That is great that you were able to see the areas in your life that need attending to now for you. Sometimes it is hard to look at our lives and think of ourselves and our own well being but it is extremely important. I hope that you can find the time management plans that you described to give you some relief from the feeling of overwhelmed. I too feel that way often. Sometimes it is hard to walk out of our comfort zones and make the necessary changes in our lives. Just remember that you have to take care of you before you can take care of others. Good luck with this and email me anytime that you need to talk. It sounds like we are in the same boat sometimes. God bless you and I will keep you and your well being in my prayers. I agree this was a very deep look into our personal lives. For me it was difficult because I feel that I have several areas that need addressed however the psychospiritual area needs to be worked on now for me in order to move to the other areas. Good luck

  4. Hello Therese.

Just want to say thank you for your comment to my post this week. You are a very kind and loving person! I see from your post that you have some difficulties to manage your time and it is completely understandable, sometime live can get very busy and sometime I feel to like burning out to. Well my solution was to make a little sacrifice at this point of my life because you know we not always can have everything we want. Sometime something got to give. So at this point I give up my personal life. Not like I don't have it at all, but it is not on the top of my priorities’ list. So of course it is just my suggestion but maybe it would making a since for now to choose what is the most important for you and give something that is not as important up, just for a while. Maybe switch to a part-time job or something like this. You know what I mean. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with practicing your exercises and can't wait to read more of your posts.

    Regards,
    Svetlana.

  5. Hello Therese,

Isn't interesting how the integral assessment really gets into our minds? At first I was kind of apprehensive (question after question) but afterwards I realized that this kind of assessment was made to help us versus hinder us. I think it's really cool that you were able to realize where you needed to work on aspects on you life and how you could literally feel the love you were sharing with your fellow man/woman. Sometimes it's classes like these that really can bring out the best in us. =)

  6. I like the order in which you did the practices. I think in your situation it was important for you to address your current status and then perform a love and kindness practice to confirm your current status while providing you with positive emotions for change. It can be very difficult to realize what is going on in your life, and knowing that they have to do with your actions and your thoughts. By realizing why your life is the way it is, we can make better decisions for the future to make ourselves healthier in all aspects. I know this was hard for you this week..but great job and keeping going with it...it will pay off!!
