Unit 8 blog
Hi my fellow students!
My two most favorite exercises that we have done in this course are: Loving Kindness and the Visualization "Meeting Asclepius". I found both to really make my heart soar. I felt whole and calm and kinder after doing both of these, whether I did them at separate times or one right after the other. I felt like I was "working out" my stress and creating health in my own mind, body and spirit. I intend to do these exercises on a weekly basis. I want to do the "Meeting Asclepius" one on every Sunday night as I start wind down time. I want to do the loving kindness one, the other six days. I found that I can do a watered down version of it while I am driving to work or when I first get to work. I am finding that when I do this practice, my whole day seems to go better and I am lighter and find laughter around me. For me, laughter is like working out my muscles for mental fitness. I need to have some of it everyday and smiles for those around me, too.
I would love to hear your examples of how you finding a way to put your favorite exercises into your daily life.

Unit 7 Exercise
"Meeting Asciepius" exercise:
I really like track #4 on the Dacher CD. I find it very calming. It does seem to get easier to keep my
mind focused for longer periods, the more times that I spend the time doing it! This last time I actually
felt myself calm and slow down. I felt like my body actually relaxed and my mind went into a meditative
stillness. I guess I achieved the "calm-abiding" part for the first time. By my actions of doing these meditation practices on the entire Dacher CD, I am feeling kinder and more compassionate. I find when a
critical or judgemental thought crosses my mind, I grab it and re-direct it to a kinder and gentler, chosen
thought. I don't do it 100% of the time, but I do find that I am able to choose my actions rather than just
react to stress. I can continue to foster this change by continuing to practice some meditative practices on a regular basis. I know this will increase my mental, physical and spiritual self. I do want to feel happy and filled with joy most every day. I know life will throw in changes and I want to learn to accept these and not be thrown off balance.
"One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" means the same to me as "you cannot judge another man until you have walked a mile in his moccasins"! I feel this means there is so much that we do not know and we cannot teach unless it is from a place where we have been or understood. I think that what being a mentor means. You are helping teach teach someone in the area that you have achieved success in. This can apply to a health and wellness professional by medical doctors and psychologists both doing some personal work in the spiritual field. It would be positive if they could experience different styles of meditation, yoga, pilates, body work, counseling, etc. I think they could understand their patients much better and offer alternative methods when one is not working. I think each professional does have an obligation to develop themselves both mentally, physically and spiritually. This would open all kinds of healing and the right method for each individual could be discovered. I personally can implement psychological and spiritual growth in my life by continuing in my monthly counseling group where I do meditative journeying and by making other meditations exercises a regular part of my life. I can continue to grow calmer and handle stress in positive ways and this will teach others by my example. I will continue to spend time in nature. I will aim to do that each day and if I don't make that ,I will add extra time on the week-ends as this is spiritually healing for me.

Unit 6 Exercise & Assessment Process
Hello!
Earlier today I did the assessment process and I just finished the loving kindness exercise.
The assessment process got me to really look, in present time, what is going on with me.
In what areas do I need to focus in on to develop a clear and calm state? This process
has you look at all major four areas in your personal life and see which one needs attention
or re-directing. The loving kindness exercise involves taking 10 minutes to repeat the listed
phrases. It's purpose is to rid the mind of negative thoughts and bring into a loving and
giving place.
My experience with this Unit 6 assignment was subtle and yet powerful.
I found the assessment made me "look" at myself and my personal world
I found that my life is out of balance. I am having time issues which affect my
work, college and personal parts of my life. I see that I need to address some
attention to some time scheduled slots for work and school and personal down
time. I feel burned out and can barely keep going. I also saw that I have been
ignoring my poor personal relationship and why am I not moving on? My needs
are not getting met and I have just given up on it being fixable. So, for me a lot
of heavy stuff came up. I decided to give myself time to put attention on
taking better care of me. After the loving kindness exercise, I did feel my energy
shift and I felt more open and loving to all. I saw that I can do more to love and
help others. I felt like a better human after these exercises. I see value in doing
both of these.

Unit 5 Blog exercise - did I get it in right spot finally?
therese said...
Unit 5 Blog - First off - can anyone advise me how to get my new blog at the top of my home page? I have to just go to the post a comment box and add on. Is this how you are doing it?
Exercise #2 Subtle Mind vs. Exercise #1 Loving kindness:
I actually so far like #1 Loving Kindness better. I seem to be able to stay in it and do it and it stays with me. I find myself the next day repeating some of the words of it. Tonight was the first time I listened to #2 as my c.d. is very scratchy. I liked it but found it too long. I am really tired physically tonight so don't know if that is why. I found myself thinking how much longer and then I would redirect back to the meditation and keep my mind there. I found it a bit frustrating as it seemed to be harder to me. I will keep an open mind and try it again when not so tired.
Part 2 - the entire balance needs to be in a circle - the mind the body and the spirit. This is necessary to have true health and happiness.
In my life this is manifested when I am out on a run in nature. As I observe different birds and animals I feel in communion with nature. I feel like I belong and they belong and together we are the mind, body, spirit of the world.
I always feel calmer and happier out in nature.
Any suggestions are welcome on how to last all the way through #2.

Are you living it now or how are you working towards that?

journey #1
I listened to the journey tape for the first time tonight. I listened to it while I was taking a warm bath. I felt myself slipping into relaxation slowly and gently. My arms and hands did experience a feeling of heaviness and not wanting to move up. I felt the blood go to my sore shoulders and seem to heal away the aching. I felt my breathing slow down and felt a bit sleepy yet not really tired. I think this is a great stress reducer.
